The club’s district commissioner Pam Ireland, from Lockington, near Beverley, said it was “very kind” of Bishop Burton College, the event hosts, to invite the club to help Chief Executive and Principal, Bill Meredith, at the medal ceremonies.
While the younger members helped hand over the medals, the older pony clubbers were given the job of raising and lowering the winners’ flags.
“It’s particularly fitting as we’ve just had our 25th year of Pony Club camp at the college,” said Pam, speaking just before presenting the medals for the dressage competition.
“We started out stabling the ponies in the old cow shed and it’s amazing how the college and its facilities have grown. Who would have thought it would end up hosting an event like this?”
As well as their annual camp, members of the Pony Club enjoy regular rallies at the college.
